I Know Now Why You Cry

By Christian E. Hallaway

“No fucking way!”

She picks herself up off the ground and turns to run.

“You run, you die. Get. In.” His words are sharp and cut through her trepidation like cold metal.

He glances quickly back through the windshield then back to her, saying nothing. No fear on his face, no hint of what is coming.

The first shot hits the windshield head on, travelling clear through the center of the car. The second hits him square in the chest, revealing a hyperalloy endoskeleton.

He barely flinches as he extends his hand.

“Come with me if you want to live.”
