Per Our Agreement

By LO Loverun

I covered the bed and adjacent wall with a tarp — courtesy for my brothers. Now, rays from the window hold me while I consider eternity, smelling the oil from Richard's shotgun. One for Carolyn (her body is well hidden), one for me. I lie down, gun against my cassock, clerical collar removed, barrels beneath my chin.

"Quit stalling!" I imagine Richard say. I squeeze.

My eyes open. There's Carolyn, not beneath me. Richard is on her, staring blankly at me. I'm immobile; arms splayed, pain pulsing unbearably in my hands and feet.

"As promised," Richard says. "Eternity with Carolyn."
